Come Fire, Come Rain - A Cottage Owner's Countertops Prove Their Worth

Nearly 85 years ago, in Muskoka, Ontario, a small cottage resort called "Cedar Grove" opened its doors. Founded by the Fleming family, it was their hope to provide vacationers with the hospitality and beauty of what is now known as the highly regarded "cottage country".

Fast-forward to January of 2011. The economy is fragile, and the desire to keep business flowing into Cedar Grove's 19 cabins remains at the forefront of co-ower Jeremy Fleming's mind. Being a year-round cottage resort, the Fleming family puts forth their best effort to keep each cabin in impeccable condition due to their constant stream of visitors - making each and every cottage a valuable asset to Jeremy and the Cedar Grove family.

It was at this very time, during the dead of winter, that disaster struck: one of the cabins - the "Love Dove" cabin - caught fire, and everything in its interior was reduced to ashes. All of the furniture, the walls and the fixtures were no longer. Despite this disheartening event, the Fleming family knew that the cottage had to be resurrected to its original state. And so began the re-building process.

As the re-build commenced and the construction crew began rummaging through what remained after the fire, they came across the DuPont™ Corian® countertop that was situated in the bar area. In his experience in dealing with the local Corian® distributor, Willis, Jeremy Fleming knew that this product was renowned for being durable and renewable - and was backed by a company that truly cared about its customers. But, given the extent of the fire damage to the entire interior of the cottage, the scepticism regarding any potential repair still lingered.

And so began the experiment: Would DuPont™ Corian® really uphold its reputation for being almost entirely renewable?

Yes.

Within two hours of cleaning and sanding the countertop, it was restored to its original condition. As Jeremy stated, "Only myself and the installers knew this was the original countertop. Even the housekeeper was astonished when she learned that we had simply refurbished the material."

Jeremy could not have been more thrilled about this "little victory" while undertaking the larger task of repairing the cabin. He was so thrilled, in fact, that he ordered more Corian® countertops to be installed in the bathroom area - as well as the bar and bathroom of his "Blue Heron" cabin.

So, was it the outstanding nature of Corian® that caused Jeremy to order more of the product for his resort? "I was thoroughly impressed with how the Corian® withstood the fire. But, what is most impressive to me is the great service and dedication that Willis has provided to Cedar Grove," said Jeremy.

And now, as summer cottage season is in full-force, Jeremy can breathe a sigh of relief; the "Love Dove" cabin completed its re-construction on June 1st. Like the Corian® countertop, the peace and tranquility of cottage country has been restored to this enchanting resort.
